Help Finding Specific Gun

Hello all.

Im looking for a carbine(or carbine like) gun chambered in .45

Do they exist besides the old 'cow boy' look alike rifles? I figure since the bulk of my ammo is .45(for my carry peice) If I can find a good carbine for a .45 that would save me from having to find more ammo.

I've been looking at 9mm ones as well. Anybody have any suggestions of where I could start looking at a 'reasonable' price?

Thanks guys.

The Marlin carbine comes to mind but they're running about $700 or so on gunbroker.

Ouch, $700, i was hoping theyd be cheaper than an AK, lol.

But really, thats not much more than a good high quaility pistol. Of course good high quality pistols can be found for less.

I guess I should also specify that I dont have an "assault" rifle or EBR or anything and im looking at carbines as a 'reach out and touch some one' weapon to fill the gap between my pistols and my shotguns.

I like Beretta's CX4 Storm. I believe they come in 9mm .40 and .45.

$700 is not obscene for such a nice weapon that eats the same stuff you already stock.
You could spend much less on a rifle that does a lot more but you'd have to feed it and matching calibers is a great way to justify getting a quality weapon with more dough.

Definitely consider what distances you expect to cover and the realistic energies and accuracies of your calibers at those distances in the weapon you're looking at. I do not know how accurate an off-the-shelf .45 round actually is in a Marlin .45 carbine but I have to say I've not heard any stories of folks making 2" groups at 300yds or anything. Maybe I just don't know the right folks, though.

If you're just looking for a toy, then the above suggestion is probably your best bet. You could also get AR45 - a variation of AR15 platform designed for .45ACP cartridge. However, if you're looking for a serious mid-to-long range carbine for self-defense, then I would skip all of the pistol cartridge chambered carbines and go for something that was designed around a rifle round.

I got a chance to shoot a friends Calico carbine a long time ago. It was pretty sweet, especioally from prone, as the mag sits on top. I'd bet both would be really hard to find today. Just listing some options, though none in .45

Hardly a toy. Fellow on the Beretta forums has put thousands of rounds of submachine gun, +P+, and Russian steel case ammo, all without a fumble...

I picked up one of these myself recently in 9mm. Handy, lightweight, takes 92 mags, accurate, perfect for home defense, easy to mount optics, lights, and lasers, QUIET with Winchester Ranger 147 SXTs (about like a 22 so it won't alarm the neighbors), and deadly on these varmints that skulk around in my back yard at night:

A friend of mine has the cx4 storm in 9mm if I remember correctly. He bought it because it looked like a gun from some game like HALO or something. I never shot it, but remember thinking it looked a bit silly.

But really, I like the gun as far as a carbine in .40 cal goes.

The question now is:

Do I plop down the 700 bucks for this gun and stash a little .40 cal ammo or do I just pony up the same amount of cash and grab an AK and some 7.62?

My wife will also be looking for a concealed carry gun soon as well, and I was thinking of getting a .40 for her since it has the extra mag capacity.

This is my dilema, full blown 'assault' RIFLE or a lesser range carbine chambered for more easily obtainable(and cheaper) rounds.

BTW, I paid $550 for my slightly used Storm...not sure I would pay $700.

If you don't own one, I would get at least a battle rifle in the .308/30-06/54R range. The 308 Saiga is still available for $600-650.

I don't know about where you're getting your ammo from, but 'round here 5.45x39 is much cheaper than 9mm and much much cheaper than .45

Are you talking about .45 ACP or .45 Long Colt? I do not recall seeing a "Cowboy look alike rifle" in 45 ACP is why I ask... I think Marlin Camp Carbine in .45 ACP.

Yeah, i went ACP, as I didnt want to get the lever action type that use the .45 colt, thus causing me to buy new, more expensive ammo.

I like those old lever actions alot, just want to get something in an easier to obtain, more economical round.

I would get the CX4 Storm. The Marlin camp gun is a great carbine as well.

You should have picked up a .357/.38 special lever action.

If you can find a WW2 or modern version (Rhineland), it would be sort of fun (OK, VERY fun!) to have a DeLisle carbine. Suppressed .45ACP, using modified 1911 mags. Here's a video of one being fired over in the UK:
